Complaints and grievance

A grievance may arise if you believe that an incorrect decision or inappropriate behaviour has adversely affected your rights. Examples include:

The grievance process is made up of formal and informal academic and non-academic appeals processes. For further information, refer to Sections 16 (Academic appeals) and 17 (Misconduct) of the TAFE Queensland Student Rules. See below for the relevant process to follow.

Complaints and suggestions procedures

Making a suggestion is one way you as a students or clients can voice your opinion. If you would like to suggest how we might improve our services, please complete a Suggestion Form. Alternately you can contact our customer care staff on 1300 656 188 or in person and they will assist you.

Teachers will request students to participate in a review of the training received either by conducting a class forum or through the completion of an evaluation form. These reviews assist with evaluating the effectiveness of the course/program we deliver and improving the quality of the training. Alternatively, a toll free national training complaints hotline is available on 1800 000 674.

Contacting teachers

At Hervey Bay campus, students are able to contact teachers at the teachers' staff rooms in A, C and W Blocks. Students are not permitted to enter the staff rooms, however a free telephone is located in the foyer for students to call teachers in the staff rooms.

Teachers can be contacted at Bundaberg, Gympie and Maryborough campuses through Customer Care.

Harassment

Harassment is any form of verbal or physical behaviour that is unwanted, unwelcome and unreciprocated that makes the learning environment unpleasant, humiliating or intimidating for the person who is the target of that behaviour. If you consider that you have been harassed you should let the person know that you object to their behaviour and do not want it repeated. If you do not feel comfortable talking to the person or they continue with the behaviour, you should speak to your teacher or another TAFE staff member, for example the counsellor or harassment referral officers. You can discuss the matter with any of these people without having to make a formal complaint. All discussions are confidential. You also have the right to lodge a formal complaint of misconduct against the person harassing you.
