Simple steps to enrol as an international student

Step 1:
Complete and return a WideBay TAFE International Student Enrolment Application Form.

You can either do this on line or by downloading the pdf version [PDF 51kb] or the MS Word version [Word 137kb] and returning it to us.

Once we have received your completed application, you will then receive:

  1. notification from WideBay TAFE that we have received and are reviewing your application.

After WideBay TAFE has reviewed your application for enrolment, you will then receive:

  1. an offer of place (including fees, charges and course duration, English proficiency level, health cover, etc)
  2. terms and conditions for study at WideBay TAFE.

Step 2:
Once you receive your offer of place from WideBay TAFE, you should then:

  1. pay all fees listed on the offer of place by the due date
  2. sign and return the terms and conditions of study agreement
  3. submit information listed as a condition for entry to WideBay TAFE. This information is listed at the bottom of the offer of place.

Once you have completed the steps above, WideBay TAFE will then send you a copy of your Confirmation of Enrolment for you to take to the Australian Embassy or Consulate to obtain your student visa.

The Australian Embassy or Consulate will have an electronic copy of the Confirmation of Enrolment in their office and will need your copy to begin the application process for your student visa.

Overseas student health cover

As an international student in Australia, you are required to obtain overseas student health cover for the duration of your stay in Australia. Overseas student health cover will help you pay for medical and hospital care you may need while studying in Australia. Overseas student health cover will also contribute towards the cost of most prescription medicine and emergency ambulance transportation.

Overseas student health cover is available to students and your family members accompanying you to Australia. You may request family coverage for you, your spouse and dependent children under 18 years of age, if they are accompanying you to Australia. You can pay for your overseas student health cover when you pay the first instalment on your offer of place - this will cover you when you first arrive into Queensland.

More details about overseas student health cover may be obtained from the Medibank Private website.

Visa applications

International students intending to study at WideBay TAFE, must obtain a student visa, a temporary resident visa or a working holiday visa that permits study. It is recommended that you contact the Australian Embassy, Consulate or Mission in your home country as early as possible for full details regarding your visa application.

Students applying for a student visa in Australia are not initially granted permission to work. You will only be able to apply for a student visa with work rights after you arrive in Australia and have begun your studies at WideBay TAFE.

Further information and application forms may be obtained from the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship website at www.immi.gov.au.

Once on campus at WideBay TAFE, students may obtain information and an application form for permission to work from the international student support officer.
