English language program
Wide Bay Institute of TAFE's English Language programs enable you to reach the English language levels required for formal studies in Australia and/or gain English language skills to improve employment prospects in your own country and for the English language skills required for holiday travel in Australia. All English language programs are offered full-time with 25 hours of classes each week. Class sizes average 10 students with a maximum of 18 students. An open and friendly approach to learning is adopted in order to ensure you are able to achieve your full potential. Bundaberg campus delivers a full time English language program. English is also available part time at Gympie, Hervey Bay and Maryborough campuses catering to non student VISA holders only.

Assessment
You will be assessed upon entry to Wide Bay Institute of TAFE to determine the most suitable level for you to begin your English language studies.
As you progress through the program you will undertake formal tests conducted in the classroom. Only after you have successfully completed these tests can you progress to the next level.
English Language Program Certificate Levels

| Certificate I in Spoken and Written English | IELTS 2 (approximate) | Focuses on the basics of English and develops the basics of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Are necessary for further development and will allow the learner to participate in routine social situations. |
| Certificate II in Spoken and Written English | IELTS 3 (approximate) | Concentrates on developing basic social proficiency and concentrates on aspects of reading, writing, listening and speaking which will allow the learner to participate in limited social and vocational settings. |
| Certificate III in Spoken and Written English | IELTS 4 (approximate) | Focuses on developing more advanced social proficiency and concentrates on aspects of reading, writing, listening and speaking which will allow the learner to participate in most social and limited academic and vocational settings. |
| Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English- Further Study | IELTS 5.0 (approximate) | Concentrates on preparing students for further studies and concentrates on advanced reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar as well as test and assessment skills. |
After English Language Program
Upon successful completion of the Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English you will receive direct entry into our Diploma courses.
You will also have a better understanding of how to live and study in an English-speaking social and/or business environment after graduating from a our English Language program. Wide Bay Institute of TAFE will provide you with the skills and knowledge that will prepare you for further study, the workplace or your Australian holiday.
There is now an articulation arrangement between Wide Bay Institute of TAFE and the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) to deliver English at Wide Bay Institute of TAFE. Upon successful completion of the Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English, students will receive direct entry (pertaining to English requirements only) to USQ.

Part time English language programs
Available at the Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Gympie and Maryborough campuses catering to non student VISA holders only, ie working holiday, tourist, sponsored 457 etc. The General English program is designed for people on temporary visas who are not on student visas and who do not qualify for government assisted programs such as the Adult English Migrant Program (AMEP).
This program is run by qualified English Language teachers in an accredited government institution. Lessons are delivered in a supportive and fun environment, with class sizes kept to a maximum of 18, to ensure a personalised approach. You will be provided with the skills to make working and participating in the local Australian community easier. At an advanced level, you may be prepared for the International English Language Testing Program (IELTS) test which is a requirement for some people working in Australia.
General English
The basics: 20 hour Introductory English Language Basic Program. $280 for the program.
Standard program: 50 hour round coverage of general English needs. $665 for the program.
Extended program: 100 hours giving you extended tuition in general English needs. $1,260 for the program.
