How to enrol

WideBay TAFE is committed to providing all of our students with a level of service and training second to none. Friendly, experienced customer care staff are available to assist you with all aspects of the enrolment process.

Once you have chosen your course, follow the steps below to ensure a successful enrolment.

Pre-enrolment information

Please be sure to read and understand the pre-enrolment information [PDF 1.02MB dated 4 September 2007] before you enrol into your course. Complete the enrolment forms

To ensure a successful enrolment you need to complete the following forms, available from the Customer Care Centre:

  1. New personal details form [PDF 121kb]
    To ensure a successful enrolment in a course it is important that you complete all fields of the New Student Personal Details form (EV348) and sign the student declaration.
  2. Enrolment Selection form/s
    Write your student number (if known), name and date of birth at the top of the enrolment selection form. After pre-consultation with staff from your area of chosen study, nominate the units of competency and session times you wish to attend by placing an 'X' in the boxes on the right hand side of the Enrolment Selection form/s.

Submit your forms:

Please check all submitted information carefully. Failure to provide accurate information may affect the quality of support provided by the Institute to assist you to successfully complete your studies. In some cases you may need to provide proof of pre-requisites. Some module/competency enrolments are offered on a "first-in, first-served" basis while others require specific entry requirements.

Calculating my fees

In most courses offered by the institute, students contribute towards providing student services and facilities by paying fees and charges set by the government. You can roughly calculate your fees by adding the full or concession cost of each module on your enrolment selection form. In some cases enrolment forms can include a $20.00 administration fee.

A material cost is included in student fees and payable to the Institute. Depending on the course, some additional costs may be met by the student e.g. for books, additional materials or industry visits, etc.

Fee concessions

Students enrolling in a mainstream TAFE Queensland program may be eligible to apply for a concessional rate on tuition fees. The Director may exempt a student from 75% of the tuition fee component of total fees and charges for a subject. You may apply if you are:

Students must present evidence of exemption when enrolling. If evidence is not presented at time of enrolment then full fees will apply. The Institute cannot refund fees if you present evidence after enrolment.

Age concession

Students under 17 years of age (TAFE student) or under 18 years of age (Senior college student), at the end of February in the year of study, will need to present, at time of enrolment, one of the following:

Financial hardship

For students who are experiencing financial hardship which may limit ability to pay for the program, please ask to speak to a Customer Care Officer. To be eligible for consideration you will be required to provide appropriate evidence of financial hardship.

Extreme financial hardship

The institute Director may consider a request for an exemption from regulated fees on the grounds of extreme financial hardship. For an exemption to be granted, the Director must be satisfied that the student would have to forgo basic needs of living in order to pay the regulated fees.

Students need to see the College Counsellor to discuss their situation and arrange for an application for exemption of fees to be sent to the Director.

What are my payment options?

In person - With a payment of cash, cheque, credit card or EFTPOS at the appropriate campus:

By telephone - enrolments will be taken with payment by major credit cards by telephoning 1300 656 188.

Should you wish to make a credit card payment and be entitled to a fee concession a copy of the concession card (certified to be a true copy by a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner for Declarations) can be faxed to the appropriate campus for processing.

By mail - by posting a cheque or money order with attachment detailing name, address, phone number and date of birth along with course and subject details to:

Has my enrolment been successful?

You will be issued with an enrolment confirmation detailing modules/units of competency and their associated fees in addition to being supplied with a student handbook.

Changes to enrolment or personal details

It is important that our records are accurate and up to date. Should you change your name, address or other details during your period of study, please notify the Customer Care Centre staff as soon as possible.

Applications to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre

Applications for full-time diploma and advanced diploma courses should be forwarded to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) before 30 September. Late applications will incur a late fee, which is payable to QTAC.

Disclosure of personal information

Under certain circumstances, the Wide Bay Institute of TAFE is bound by law to disclose enrolment details for the purposes mentioned in the Training and Employment Act 2000. Also agencies, such as Commonwealth and State Government Departments, are granted access to enrolment details. If you have any objections to this access, you must notify the Customer Care Centre, Wide Bay Institute of TAFE, within 14 days upon receipt of this advice.
