Study paths

Students can study at Wide Bay TAFE during all stages of their careers and lives. For example, study at Wide Bay TAFE can help you to make the transition to paid work.

Below are some examples of some of the study paths and options available to you at Wide Bay Institute of TAFE. Give yourself the edge at your next job interview - study with Wide Bay Institute of TAFE.

Year 10

You get an apprenticeship as a chef at a local restaurant and sign a training agreement with your new boss. You work full-time and attend TAFE for scheduled block release training. When you graduate, you go on a working holiday (as your qualification is recognised across Australia) and dream of one day opening your own restaurant.

Year 12

You complete your Senior Certificate but don't get the Overall Position you need to get into university. You decide to enrol in a full-time Diploma of Information Technology at your local TAFE. You complete your TAFE diploma in 18 months, receive credit, and improve your Overall Position score enough to enrol in a Bachelor of Information Technology.

University

You are a graduate with a Bachelor of Information Technology and would like to get into the multimedia field. Complete a Diploma of Multimedia in one year at WideBay TAFE and you are now in a better position.

TAFE

Find out about upgrading from TAFE to University. You're currently enrolled in a certificate course at WideBay TAFE and work part-time at a fast food chain. Your dream job is to work in a 5-star hotel in the Whitsunday Islands but you don't yet have the skills they need. To make your dream job a reality, your TAFE teacher advises you to enrol in the Diploma of Hospitality and Tourism and receive credit for the study you've already done in the certificate.

Work

You've been working as a receptionist in a large real estate agency for the last 5 years and need a challenge. While still working full-time, you enrol in a flexible course at WideBay TAFE and get your Certificate IV in Real Estate Practices in 6 months. You are well on the way to your new career.

Entering the workforce

After spending the last 3 years caring for your family you decide it's time to enter the workforce again. You hope to find work helping young people in your community and enrol in Certificate III in Community Services (Alcohol and Other Drugs Work) at WideBay TAFE.
