Toyota training vehicle goes an extra mile for TAFE

Wednesday, 1 July 2009

A Toyota HiLux with only 60 kilometres on the speedometer will be used as a training vehicle for apprentices after it is handed over to Wide Bay Institute of TAFE in May 2009.

The 4-wheel drive utility vehicle travelled to the Institute's Maryborough campus from the Toyota Training School in Townsville where it had been used to train Toyota technicians.

The HiLux is the second Toyota training vehicle Jack Casey Motors has arranged ...Jack Casey Motors, Maryborough, was instrumental in arranging for the vehicle to be donated to Wide Bay Institute of TAFE.

Service Manager at Jack Casey Motors, Phil House, said the 2005 model HiLux had never been on the road, going straight from the assembly line to the training centre and had been carried to Maryborough on a Toyota freighter.

"I feel great about it coming to our region because it's helping the trade develop technical knowledge that will benefit the community," Mr House said.

"It's only one model back from the current one which is a plus for trainers and students because apprentices don't always have the latest models to work on."

The HiLux is the second Toyota training vehicle Jack Casey Motors has arranged to be donated to the Institute and joins a six- cylinder Camry that arrived on the Hervey Bay campus four years ago.

Wide Bay Institute of TAFE Director, Trevor Schwenke said the HiLux diesel model would offer something special to the Maryborough campus automotive training facility.

"We already have front and rear drive vehicles but have never had a 4-wheel drive or a diesel engine," Mr Schwenke said.

"Our automotive teachers tell me this model provides a range of components not found on other drives that will really expand our students' experience."

The vehicle will be officially handed over ..."Thanks to both the Toyota Motor Company and Jack Casey Motors for their efforts to arrange this generous donation that completes the range of motors we have in the Institute's training fleet."

The vehicle will be officially presented to the Wide Bay Institute of TAFE at a ceremony on at 10.30am on Friday 29 May 2009 at the automotive training facility, Maryborough campus, Nagel Street Maryborough.
