Wide Bay Institute of TAFE offers fee free child care training
Monday, 15 June 2009
Wide Bay Institute of TAFE is participating in a state-wide TAFE initiative free training for child care students throughout 2009.
The initiative is the result of an agreement between the Queensland Department of Education and Training and the Federal Government which removes TAFE tuition fees for the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Children's Services courses.
Wide Bay Institute of TAFE Acting Institute Director, Ana Rodger said the fee removal was helping train the 14,000 additional workers needed in the Queensland childcare industry by 2010.
"So far more than 250 students have enrolled under this new initiative at the institute's Gympie, Hervey Bay and Bundaberg campuses," she said.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for childcare workers in the Wide Bay area to upgrade qualifications and prospective new workers to enter the industry.
"Also exciting is the flexibility with which these programs are delivered which includes face-to-face or on-the-job training, or through distance learning."
"A diploma can lead to new career paths and is often a stepping stone to university," Ms Rodger said.
The Australian Government has provided eight and a half million dollars to the program nationally to support new and existing childcare workers to gain a vocational education and training qualification in early childhood.
